Parks & Recreation will be taking applications for over 85 seasonal aquatic positions including cashiers, lifeguards, assistant pool managers, and pool managers starting in DECEMBER. Applications can be downloaded from the current job openings page! Must be 15 years of age, American Red Cross certified, live in Iowa, and live within 10 miles of the Sioux City city limits.

Not an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard?

The City of Sioux City in partnership with the Sioux City School District is offering a Red Cross Lifeguarding Class for FREE to any student 15 years or older if they work the aquatic season. Individuals looking for an aquatic job through the Sioux City Parks and Recreation Department can sign up for one of the lifeguarding classes offered. This class includes CPR/AED for a Professional Rescuer and Lifeguarding. Please contact John Byrnes, Recreation Supervisor, at 712-224-6483, for more information or to sign up for a class. To qualify, individuals must live within ten miles of the Sioux City, Iowa city limits. Applications must be submitted online for pre-approval at www.sioux-city.org under City Job Openings.

To be eligible for an aquatic position, candidates must commit to working at least 24 hours per week including nights, weekends, and holidays (Memorial Day weekend and 4th of July). A typical work day is 12:30 pm - 7:30 pm. The morning and night hours are reserved for swimming lessons. Candidates must also pass a mandatory drug test to be hired. Upon passing the class along with mandatory drug test, the candidates will be placed at one of the three swimming pools based on the needs of the Parks & Recreation Department. Candidates are not guaranteed a specific work location.
