Yard waste can be placed in your regular garbage container for collection year round.

Yard waste is recommended to be bagged if placed in your garbage container! This will make it easier to completely empty the container; packing it into the container makes it difficult to empty, causing it to become stuck in your container.

Tree branches not larger than 2 inches in diameter and no longer than four (4) feet in length may be loosely placed in your garbage container for pick-up on your regular garbage day. Larger branches must be brought to the Citizen's Convenience Center (old landfill) located at 5800 28th Street for a fee.

Excess branches may be bundled (weighing no more than 35 pounds) with a solid waste sticker affixed prior to collection. Solid waste stickers may be purchased at HyVee, Fareway, Wal-Mart, Bomgaars on Hamilton Blvd. and City Hall.  Excess branches may also be brought to the Citizen's Convenience Center (old landfill) located at 5800 28th Street for a fee.

Leaves and grass clippings may be placed in your regular garbage. Excess leaves and grass clippings may be brought to the Citizen's Convenience Center (old landfill) located at 5800 28th Street. Deliver yard waste only in paper bags, no plastic! This is free for residents bringing leaves/grass clippings from their property only; commercial lawn care companies are subject to a fee for yard waste disposal.

Where it goes...

Organic debris such as yard waste and tree branches that is placed in your regular garbage container is brought to L.P. Gill Landfill in Jackson, Nebraska, where it is buried with other household garbage. Organic matter naturally produces methane as it breaks down, which is collected and used as an alternative energy source.
