Acceptable Containers

Each Sioux City resident is allowed (1) solid waste and (1) recycle tote provided by Gill Hauling.

Additional solid waste totes may be rented from Gill Hauling by contacting 712-279-0151 for an additional charge.  Additional recycle totes are free of charge. 

Residents may also use approved personal containers which may be no more than 35 gallons in size but will need to have a one-time pre-purchased solid waste sticker attached to the container.

All garbage and/or yard waste should be bagged and placed in a container, or it may not be picked up by Gill Hauling. Recycled material should not be bagged or bagged in a paper grocery bag and placed in a recycle container (recyclable materials only).

Furniture, electronics, and other bulky items must be taken to the Citizen's Convenience Center, or you may call 279-0151 to arrange for pickup. There is a fee for this service.

Scattered Garbage

The City of Sioux City is not responsible for scattered materials. Scattered materials include garbage, yard waste and recycling. If animals are a problem in your neighborhood, please contact Animal Control at 712-279-6170. If illegal dumping or scavengers are a problem in your neighborhood, please contact the Police Department at 712-279-6357.

Solid Waste Fees -

The current solid waste base rate is $17.85 per month, which includes a 95 gallon garbage container to be collected once per week and a 95 gallon recycle container to be collected every other week.  Residential yard waste may be mixed with garbage container. 

A low-volume solid waste rate is available for $16.50 per month, which includes a 65 gallon garbage container to be collected once per week and a 65 gallon recycle container to be collected every other week.  Residential yard waste may be mixed with garbage container. 

Additional residential refuse containers up to a maximum of 6 for garbage and co-mingled yard waste will be $4.37 per month per account.  Additional recycle containers are free of charge.  Call 712-279-0151 to request an additional trash or recycle container(s). 

Solid waste stickers may be purchased for $1.50 at City Hall, Fareway, Hy-Vee, Bomgaars (Hamilton location only), Wilmes Hardware and Wal-Mart.

Gill Hauling will provide assistance to elderly or disabled citizens.  An application can be accessed here.  Once the resident has completed the certification process, Gill Hauling shall approve or deny the application, and include reasons for any denial of service.
