What is a Comprehensive Plan?

A Comprehensive Plan, or Comp Plan, is a blueprint for the future of a community. It defines a vision that is intended to guide the City for the next 20 years. The Comp Plan will result in a set of policies that direct future growth and development. Additionally, it will help effectively guide City leaders with making substantive and thoughtful decisions for the community.

The Comprehensive Plan for the City of Sioux City will address a variety of topics and will include community-wide plans for land use and development, housing and residential areas, commercial and industrial areas, transportation and infrastructure, parks and recreation, open space and environmental features, and community facilities and services. The Plan will also include detailed subarea plans for key areas of the City.

The City's 2005 Comprehensive Plan is currently in the process of being updated. Over the last 2 years numerous public meetings and workshops have assisted with gaining public input on the development of a new Comprehensive Plan for Sioux City.  Several drafts have been presented to the public and the City is nearing completion of the project.
