Excess Animal Permit Information
On October 2, 2006, a new section was added to the Sioux City Municipal Code.
Title 7 Animals now includes Section 7.02.025 Maximum Number of Domestic
Animals. The new section requires citizens to acquire a $10.00 permit if they
exceed the maximum number of pets allowed. The total number of pets allowed is
three (3) per residential unit and no more than two (2) of the same species.
Examples: If you own three (3) dogs or more, or three (3) cats or more, a
permit is required. If you own two (2) dogs and one (1) cat or two (2) cats and
one (1) dog, no permit is required.
All dogs and cats must be licensed before the permit can be issued. The Excess
Animals Permit will be valid for two (2) years expiring on December 31st of the
second year.

Completed applications, along with the $10.00 permit fee, may be dropped off at
the Customer Service Center on first floor in City Hall, 405 6th Street.
Customer Service is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Your
application may also be mailed with payment to: City of Sioux City, Customer
Service Center, P.O. Box 447, Sioux City, Iowa 51102.

Remember to License your pets! All pet licenses are valid for one (1) year and
expire on December 31st of the license year. 2007 pet tags are available at the
Customer Service Center in City Hall!
