Road Construction Update
For Immediate Release Wednesday, October 21, 2009
Gordon Drive Street Lights – This project involves installing upgraded street lights along the north side of the Gordon Drive viaduct. The contractor is nearly complete modifying the street light bases and installing electrical conduit. MidAmerican will begin installing the poles this week. Upon completion, the viaduct will have a total of 20 street lights with adequate luminance to cover the four traffic lanes. This project is anticipated to be complete within the next several weeks.
11th Street Reconstruction Project – This project is nearly complete; the contractor is currently paving driveway approaches and sidewalk along 11th Street between Lewis Boulevard and Fowler Street. 11th Street is anticipated to be re-opened by the end of the month.
41st Street Bridge Removal – The 41st Street bridge, east of HWY 75, has been removed. The contractor is currently hauling away debris from the demolition and will begin storm sewer installation this week.
Military Road Widening & Reconstruction Project: Phase 5 – The final portion of mainline paving, from Rebecca Street to Ross Street, will be paved as soon as weather permits. Street returns will be paved following mainline paving. In the coming week, sidewalk crews will continue installing sidewalk along 21st Street between Myrtle Street & Rebecca Street and the contractor will be installing sod along Center Street from 18th Street to 21st Street.
Martha Street Widening & Reconstruction Project: Phase 1 – The final connections at the north and south end of the project have been paved and the contractor is currently pouring storm intake boxes, tops and throats. In the coming week, the contractor will be cleaning and sealing paving joints and the sub-contractor will be paving driveway approaches and sidewalks.
