Job Requirements

PART-TIME REFRIGERATION ENGINEER, $22.82/HOUR. This part-time position involves responsibility for the application of standard trade practices to the operation, servicing and repair of major refrigeration, air condition, heating/boiler and related units. Performs skilled work at the journeyman level. Requires possession of or ability to obtain a First Class Hydronic Engineers license. Will work at Tyson Events Center. Position is part-time with various hours including nights and weekends. Applications will be taken until position is filled.

REFRIGERATION ENGINEER IV-6335


GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the opera-tion, service and repair of refrigeration, heating and air conditioning equipment; does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work in this class involves responsibility for the application of standard trade practices to the operation, servicing and repair of major refrigeration, air conditioning, heating/boiler and related units. Assignments are received in the form of oral instruc-tions or written schedules calling for the operation, inspection or performance of preventive mainten-ance on equipment. The work is performed independently with review by the satisfactory perfor-mance of equipment serviced. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate personnel.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)

Operates, services and repairs major refrigeration, air conditioning, boiler and heating units;

Assists in the initial installation, set up and moving of equipment;

Repairs motors, receivers, condensers, floats and other parts;

Adjusts or changes belts;

Charges units with refrigerant;

Installs and adjusts expansion valves, thermostats and pressure controls;

Installs evaporators and copper tubing;

Performs plumbing work;

Performs automotive and building maintenance tasks.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the practices, mate-rials, methods and tools commonly utilized in the repair and service of major heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; thorough knowledge of the mechanical operation of major air conditioning; refrigeration and heating equipment; ability to keep records of work performed; skill in the care and use of tools and equipment essential to the repair of refrigeration equipment; some welding skill; good physical condition.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Considerable experience at the journeyman level in the operation, repair and maintenance of heavy air conditioning, refrigeration, boiler and heating equipment, and completion of a standard high school course, supplemented by an approved course of training and instruction in boiler operation, refrigeration and air conditioning; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a First Class refrigeration license and a First Class Hydronic Engineers license as issued under Sioux City Code Chapter 20.25.
