PART-TIME RECREATION & AQUATICS COORDINATOR, $7.99/HOUR. Scorekeepers needed for adult men’s recreational basketball league. Must have basic knowledge of the game of basketball and be able to do multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Will run electronic game clock, keep score, record fouls and other associated record-keeping tasks. Employees may work on Sunday or Wednesday nights in January, February and March at the Long Lines Family Recreation Center. Seasonal position, maximum 6 month employment. RECREATION AND AQUATICS COORDINATOR IV-2312
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs professional level recreation and aquatics work in planning, supervising and directing specific recreation and aquatic programs on a City wide basis; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work in this class involves the planning, im-plementation, interviewing and selection of pool staff, supervision and direction of major recreation and aquatic programs including dancing, music, drama, tennis, skating, senior citizens and coordination of outdoor swimming pools on a City wide basis. The position involves working with the public and supervision of employees and participants. Recreation and aquatic programs are discussed in some detail with professional supervisors, but an employee in this class is offered some latitude in carrying them out. The employee in this class works with community agencies to promote recreational and aquatic programs and to expose the community to the program's goals. The work is subject to review and evaluation through analysis of operating records and reports the employee will be responsible to provide, which are made daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic inspection of facilities and programs.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)
Develops, supervises and conducts ballet, folk, ballroom and other types of dancing for all age groups;
Interviews, selects, trains and supervises both recreation and aquatic personnel as instructed;
Plans and supervises a City wide choir, and adult band instruction and performance programs;
Plans, supervises and conducts City wide art, tennis and physical activity instruction and display pro-grams;
Acts as resource person in the given specialty to other recreation specialists or leaders and to com-munity civic groups;
Acts as representative of the Department of Leisure Services at meetings or conferences involved with the supervised specialty;
Solicits the services of and trains volunteers as necessary to satisfactorily carry out the specialty pro-gram involved;
Promotes program through news media and all other agencies that provide information to the general public, such as schools, businesses, and service clubs who are interested in the type of program or program performances;
Coordinates swimming program.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the equipment and techniques necessary to successfully conduct recreation and aquatic specialty programs; thorough knowledge of the methods involved in organizing, conducting, promoting and supervising a specialized program of recreation activities; good knowledge and appreciation of the philosophy and objectives of municipal recreation, and the methods involved in organizing, conducting and supervising a program of recreational activities; knowledge of the arts, physical activities and tennis, including the ability to plan, organize and teach volunteer groups methods and techniques of leading others; some knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in recreation work; ability to teach all age levels in the specialty; ability to understand the various community social conditions throughout the City so as to determine special recreational needs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates, municipal officials and the general pub¬lic; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; good physical condition; ability to coordinate aquatic programs, select, supervise and train swimming pool staff.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Considerable experience in Recreation, Physical Education and Aquatics; graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with major course work in recreation, music or other social or natural science; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
